Q: Do I keep routine maintenance of my rented property?

Chris Tan of Chur Associates answers: It makes sense to keep your unit in the best possible shape with maintenance and repairs in a timely manner. A well-maintained property has a greater value, may allow you to raise your rent and will allow you to keep good tenants in place longer. You’re not just trying to keep your tenants happy and healthy, but you’re also aiming to get the very most out of your property.

Perform routine maintenance and repairs to avoid major renovations that will occur when small problems go unresolved. It’s a good idea to stay on top of the repair and maintenance needs of your property. Make sure you act promptly when notified about repairs that need to be undertaken to prevent further damages. Do ensure that your tenants also know that they are responsible for fixing what they break or damage.
